Baladins Review: A Board Game Inspired Gem | The Gamerheads Podcast
Baladins is a breath of fresh air. Its board game inspired playstyle, coupled with branching dialogue and open quests, allows me to explore and experience it at my own pace. Adding the ability to play with up to three other people makes it feel like I’m sitting around a board game with friends. The loop mechanic adds an interesting element, refreshing the board every six turns, but it never became troublesome, as the game offers plenty to explore and do.

Perfect Tides: Station to Station Review - An Unforgettable Journey | The Gamerheads Podcast
When a story is told well, one that makes me laugh, cry, and even feel angry, then I know I’ve experienced a truly great piece of art. Perfect Tides: Station to Station is one of those games. Its raw storytelling, emotional highs and lows, and expressive animation come together to create a point-and-click adventure that’s hard to put down. There are only a handful of games that I find difficult to walk away from, and Perfect Tides: Station to Station is one of them.

GIGASWORD Review: Heavier Than it Looks | The Gamerheads Podcast
Platform reviewed: Steam Also on: PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S Price: $14.99 GIGASWORD is a side scrolling 2D puzzle action metroidvania game where I played as Ezra, a thief in the city trying to survive, when the human population is on the brink of starvation. I was tasked with ascending the ancient tower in search of a crystal called Gnosis. Helping me was the Gigasword, the titular weapon of the game, a massive sword about the size o

Aluna Rift Review: A Modern Twist on a Classic Game | The Gamerheads Podcast
I love Asteroids. One of my fondest memories is going to the local bowling alley as a kid and playing it in their small arcade, which was definitely a thing back in the day. I even ended up on their high score leaderboard and held a spot in the top five for quite some time. So when I saw Aluna Rift, a new arcade-inspired game that clearly takes cues from Asteroids, I was hoping it would capture that same nostalgic feeling for me.

Demonschool Review: Yeah, It's the Takedown | The Gamerheads Podcast
Ok, I couldn’t resist the KPop Demon Hunters reference when talking about Demonschool. Both are influenced by anime, both are about kicking demon butt, and both are fantastic in their own way. Demonschool blends everything I love about strategy games and JRPGs, but somehow makes all of it feel far more accessible without losing any of the challenge.

The Rogue Prince of Persia Review: A Stylistic Roguelike | The Gamerheads Podcast

And Roger Review: An Emotional Ride | The Gamerheads Podcast
And Roger feels less like a game and more like an experience. It has gameplay elements, sure, but from the moment I started, I knew I was in for a ride. At its core, it’s an interactive visual novel. But how it pulled me into the story, through the narrative and interactions, is something very different than any other visual novels I’ve played.

Ruffy and the Riverside Review : The Essence of a Platformer | The Gamerheads Podcast
Platform reviewed: PC Price: $19.99 USD Growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s, I felt like I was living in the golden age of platforming games, from Super Mario 64 to Banjo Kazooie. These types of games were enjoyed by so many people and it seemed like the next evolution from the side-scrolling games of the decade before. Then it seemed like developers stopped making them. Either they were following the money making trends, where graphics changed to more expansive open worl

Antonblast Review: A Flattering Imitation | The Gamerheads Podcast
Platform Reviewed : Steam Also on : Switch Price : $19.99 I'll be the first to admit that I am a loud-and-proud Nintendo fan. Whenever a first-party title releases it usually grabs my attention. Heck, I even purchased Donkey Kong Country Returns all three times. The reason I mention this is because even though I love me some Ninty, there's one thing they do that I don't like: neglect successful formulas. Case in point: the Wario Land games. I love the gameplay of those titles

Review: Knight Squad 2
Imagine Gauntlet, but instead of fighting baddies, you are in a chaotic battle with seven other players, each battling out to be the victor. That’s exactly what Knight Squad 2 brings and it is as awesome as it sounds. The game is a top down, action, arcade party game where you battle it out against other players (either other human or COM characters) in different scenarios: Capture the Grail (capture the flag style game), Battle Royale, and Payload. In Capture the Grail, yo

Review: CrossCode
CrossCode is an action RPG that arrives on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. The game is inspired by 16 bit era RPGs and it represents the genre very well. The game is set in the future where gamers play as their avatars in a MMO game called CrossWorld. You play as Lea, an avatar that lost her memory (and her voice). Working with a programmer, you enter CrossWorld in hopes to unravel the mystery of your background. I'm not going to go too much into the story, becau

Review: Langrisser 1 and 2
If you are a fan of strategy role playing games (SRPGs), then you probably heard of the Langrisser series. If you haven't play the first and second game in the series, you are in luck, as the games are coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch as a bundle. Both games play very similar, and the game play is easy to learn, yet complicated enough to make it interesting and challenging for seasoned players. Both games start off with you answering some basic questions about how you

Review: Orangeblood
At first glance I thought Grayfax Software’s game Orangeblood would be a typical JRPG filled with adorable chibi characters and overused anime tropes. To my surprise I learned the lesson of not to judge a book by its cover. Orangeblood combines the art of modern Japanese culture with the inspiration of 90s street hip hop. I found the game to be a wild ride for its “colorful” dialogue and flashback music. For starters, Orangeblood is a role playing game that utilizes turn bas

Review: Wrath: Aeon of Ruin
It’s not everyday that I play a game that pulls me in with its violence and throws me against a wall with its art. Of course, when you play a game published by 3D Realms then this is exactly what you should expect. Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a first person shooter that uses the same dark platform that games like Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem used to deliver an experience that can best be described as pure carnage. With it’s fast-paced gameplay, demonic artwork, and creative arsenal

Review: Riverbond
As a parent, it isn't always easy to find a game that is fun, age appropriate, and co-op where the whole family can play. Sure there is Mario Party, but even so, my kids' competitive spirit gets in the way (even if we are playing co-op). Thank goodness for Riverbond, as the action adventure game provides all those aspects, and allows you to play up to four players co-op. The game is fun for both kids and adults. It's an action adventure game, with RPG elements that will

Review: Cat Quest II
The sequel to the hit game Cat Quest (read our review here ), Cat Quest II follows the story of two legendary kings (one is a cat, the other is a dog) brought back to reclaim their kingdom from the warring fiefdoms of the Lupus Empire and Felingard. The game is an action RPG, similar to the previous game, however, the newest entry allows you to play single-player or couch co-op. The Tip and The Top What is great about this sequel is the fact that it took the basic formula f

Review: Control
Roger and Christian sit down to review the game Control. The Tip and the Top: Excellent third-person mechanics that combine a suite of supernatural powers with tight third-person shooting in a way that works extremely well without screwing up balancing A narrative full of tantalizing mysteries to unravel A uniquely sinister and vile tone permeates throughout the experience while still leaving room for moments of levity Level design that takes cues from older-school shooters a

Clue: Murder by Death Review: Cognitive Overload | The Gamerheads Podcast
Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t much fun for me. There’s a decent foundation here, but it’s weighed down by too many rooms to explore, too many suspects who start to blur together, and far too many objects to sift through. Combined with a poor map system, limited inventory space, slow character movement, unclear objectives, and noticeable input lag, the game quickly became frustrating.

Ella Stars Review: All Rhythm, Not Enough Story | The Gamerheads Podcast
I loved my time with Ella Stars. The music is fantastic, and the art is superb. It’s a fun, wholesome game that’s especially enjoyable when you want to unwind after a long day.
That said, I wish the level design leaned more heavily into the music itself, especially when it came to the bosses. It feels like a missed opportunity, to better connect the lyrics to the gameplay and use them to tell a story.

Streetdog BMX Review: A Solid Trick System That Doesn’t Quite Land on Both Wheels | The Gamerheads Podcast
The best part of Streetdog BMX is simply riding around and pulling off tricks for fun. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t really reward that kind of free riding. Instead, it relies on challenge areas, which require me to first locate them and then stay confined to completing objectives within those specific sections of the park. The foundation for a great trick-based biking game is here, but the way challenges are implemented holds back any sense of freedom and my overall enjoym

Speakeasy Simulator Review: What's the Secret Code? | The Gamerheads Podcast
Speakeasy Simulator was quite a fun game to play and review. I always enjoy a good simulator game and this truly hit the spot. While I did enjoy the randomness with all of the police spawns and trying to deliver more bottles to the mafia, I feel like there’s so much more that can be done to help take the game to the next level.

Axis Football 2026 Review: 4th and Long | The Gamerheads Podcast
I want to see more competitors take on Madden because it pushes Madden to step up each year. While Axis Football 2026 includes some novel ideas, like an expanded franchise mode and an attempt to make the game feel more like a televised experience, it doesn’t do enough to fully pull it off. If developers want to go down that path, they need to execute and deliver a polished game. Otherwise, it becomes too easy to spot the issues when comparing it to Madden.

Jaleco Sports - Bases Loaded Review: Batter Up | The Gamerheads Podcast
Platform reviewed: Nintendo Switch 2 Also on: Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam) Price: $7.99 One game that holds a special place in my heart is Bases Loaded. While we had NES Baseball and RBI Baseball on the NES, Bases Loaded felt like a move toward a more realistic baseball game. The player models were less cartoony, the presentation felt more TV-inspired, and the fact that players would rush the mound after getting hit by a pitch made it feel like something new. Flick Shot Rogues Review: Ready, Aim, Flick | The Gamerheads Podcast
Even with how difficult Flick Shot Rogues is, I had a really fun time with the game. After each run, I wanted to jump right back into the foray, hoping that the next attempt would be more fruitful or that I’d learn something from my previous run. The playing field can become crowded very quickly, which adds to the challenge, and the boss battles are pretty brutal. That said, pulling off a win feels great.

Dark Quest 4 Review: Strong Ideas Undermined by Broken Balance | The Gamerheads Podcast
I really wanted to like Dark Quest 4, but it felt far too punishing for me to recommend to fans of tactical games or board games like HeroQuest. The progression feels grindy, and that grind sets in far too early to get much enjoyment out of the experience. Even the difficulty sliders, which should help ease that frustration, feel broken. Any adjustment I made was immediately offset by the game increasing how much damage enemies deal.
