It was the last day of PAX East and if you’ve ever gone to a convention it’s a lot. A lot of walking, a lot of crowds, it can all become overwhelming but I knew this was a possibility. So Sunday I had made an appointment to sit down and try Verse VR, a meditation VR game. Hoping to come away feeling recharged and ready to close out PAX East and drive the ten hours home.

Verse VR is a cross worlds tour of idyllic meditative spots, from a Chinese garden to the Temple of Apollo, each map has hot spots I interacted with to learn about the culture or to hear music from that time period. My personal favorite was the West African Village, where I learned about the West African Griots, oral historians that pass the history of their village down to their successors. Sitting in this village, hearing a song of such importance that I didn’t even know about until that day just blew me away. Lofty Sky Entertainment the developers for Verse VR had reached out to their local university to work with people from around the world to contribute to the game.

After about 45 minutes of sitting with other cultures listening to their music and hearing stories of their way of life. I came away feeling more connected to the world around me and recharged. The Temple of Apollo faded away, replaced with the crowded Boston convention center, but this time I didn’t mind. It felt like the first day of PAX all over again and I was ready to make the most of it. Verse VR is expected to come out in the next few months on all VR platforms.
