3on3 FreeStyle Basketball Preview| PAX West 2026

Another review from me and you guessed it, it’s a sports game. Another one of my simple pleasures while I grew up was NBA 2K8, so when I got the chance to try out a basketball game at PAX West, it was an opportunity I knew I was not going to turn out.

3on3 FreeStyle is an arcade-style, pick up basketball game, with similar styles to NBA 2k14 blacktop, in terms of the ability to play the 3v3 pick up basketball with a commentator and music playing in the background. You can choose from a wide variety of characters and positions that suit your play-style, similar to any other sports game on the market. What I found unique about this game was at the end of the half, any player playing could change characters based on the game flow and overall general feel of the game, something that no other game of this sort allows you to do. Each character’s art design and over likeness is unique, and reminded me a lot of rocket league meets basketball.

Joycity Games, the game studio, wanted to present 3on3 in a unique way that captivates the American market in such a way that other, similar games could not. This is their second game to hit the US market (following their premium game, FreeStyle Football 2). They took a lot of their key learnings from that game with them to understand how to improve upon and deliver this game to their customers.

3on3 FreeStyle Basketball is available on Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, and Playstation. The game itself is cross play supported so no need to worry if your friends play on different platforms.
