There is something about old horror survival games that hit me right in the nostalgia. I got a feeling of that when picking up Whisper Mountain Outbreak, and then immediately after getting eaten by some hungry undead.

In Whisper Mountain Outbreak, you and up to 3 others try and survive in this 90’s pixel style horror game, inspired by the classic Resident Evil games. I fully locked in on the similarities when it came to the health bar and the inventory management. Although, instead of the biological zombies we have been used to for the past 30 years, Whisper Mountain Outbreak decides to go a different route when it comes to zombies and plays into a more mystical sense as well as using inspiration from Indonesian folklore where Toge Productions is from.

I would say though that Whisper Mountain Outbreak plays more like an extraction shooter opposed to a more slow paced game like Resident Evil. You can pick between 3 different classes: Security Guard, Firefighter and Medic. There is a clock counting down at the top of the screen where I was trying to get the data I needed and get out before the time and zombie horde caught up to me

Class Selection

I decided to go with the  Security Guard class and started off with a baseball bat and a pistol. I was trying to traverse the area taking out zombies and collecting items you will need to solve puzzles to get into new sections of the map. I was able to get the data but ran out of time, you can still get out after the time runs out but unfortunately I was overcome by the horde and lost my run.

I had an exciting time playing Whisper Mountain Outbreak and am interested in trying out the full game when it is released. I am also hoping I can take some friends in and we can try this out together, and survive the horde.
