How in the world did a cat get hired to become a secretary in our world? That’s what I was determined to find out from this cozy work sim filled to the brim with mini-games. Adorned with my little tie and a dream, I set out for my first day on the job in Cat Secretary.
I was greeted by the hiring manager and the human resources bot for the tutorial. I was prepped for what a typical day on the job would look like: making coffee, sorting files, etc. Each task built up morale within the company and of course I wanted to be the best secretary there was so I tried my best at each task. I mean, since I don’t have thumbs, pouring water into the coffee maker can be difficult!

I was especially excited to see how intuitive and smooth the controls of the game were. I don’t know why, but for some reason I love being able to jump to my next destination. Right away, I noticed how cat-like the jump was and there was even a collision mechanic which made me want to knock everything over to satisfy my inner cat. The only time I noticed that some of the controls were a little clunky was when I was doing the coffee mini-game. Since I was playing on mouse and keyboard my hands naturally were on WASD and my mouse. However, to open the coffee maker it required me to hit the enter key. Since my right hand was on my mouse, it was a little clunky to have to pick it up and hit enter each time. I did mention this as feedback while at the booth and they were receptive to key binding it differently. I think this receptiveness to feedback is a great quality to have, especially with their first release as an indie studio.

When I chatted with the folks at Good Story Guild, they wanted to create a game that was both cozy, but also tackled a hot topic in our current world, AI. Throughout the story, I would uncover secrets about the company, DOX, and the dark plot that the company is trying to accomplish with AI. I thought it was unique that they chose to make a cat the main character because the cat could then hunt down clues in the dark and snoop while the rest of the employees were at home.
While I didn’t quite get to see much of the company’s history or do many of the night time activities in the demo due to time, Cat Secretary has tons of possibilities and secrets that I am looking forward to unraveling. If you are looking for your next cozy work sim that has a story filled with tons of secrets, make sure to add this game to your Wishlist for an expected release of Fall 2025!
