If you know me, my go-to simple pleasure games are sports games. I grew up playing LEGO Soccer Mania on the PS2, so when I saw that a power-up-based soccer game was available at PAX West for a demo, I knew I needed to check it out while I had the chance.

FreeStyle Football 2 has a unique art design and play-style that is not common in the American market. I chose Butters during my playthrough. I was captivated by how simple the controls were to pick up and overall enjoyed the challenge of playing with other people at the booth, alongside with playing against the AI. Each character’s design, art, and play-style had similarities to a mix of street fighter, mario soccer, and overwatch.

WOORE, the game studio, did want to stray away from other games on the market like FIFA, allowing players to lock on to a single character for the entirety of the individual games that they play. The devs have been around for around 22 years, showcasing that the overall developer team (and team in general) is very well-versed in the market. Despite this, this is their first game on the American markets, so showcasing the developers what the American markets asked for as part of PAX was a major point of interest for coming to PAX West.

FreeStyle Football 2 will be available on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation at the end of the year. The game itself is cross play supported so no need to worry if your friends play on different platforms. If you enjoy an arcade-style soccer game, pick up FreeStyle Football 2 on the platform of your choice.
