While Waiting is a unique game that explores the idle moments where you're left waiting for things to happen. I went in unsure of what to expect, and even after playing, I’m still questioning what exactly I experienced. Despite that, While Waiting is undeniably intriguing and offers some replay value.
The game begins with me waiting in line to be born, standing as a ghostly figure among other similar type characters. A list of tasks appears—things to do while I wait, like “jump into a river” or “get caught”. Some objectives weren’t immediately clear, but once I managed to complete them, they were checked off the list. Even after being born, there were still a few tasks left, making me want to revisit the game and finish them.
The game seemed to follow my character’s growth. For example, I found myself waiting for a baton in a school relay race, with new tasks to complete while I stood there. Later, I was sitting in traffic, and once again, a list of objectives appeared. One of the more unusual tasks had me getting out of the car to gather ducks and send them home. It was definitely a unique experience, with plenty to do.
I didn’t manage to complete all the tasks, which makes me want to go back and see if I can finish them. While Waiting is a game I’m eager to dive into again when it releases.
